ARTC Continues East West Tonnage Record in November

In November Australian Rail Track Corporation Ltd (ARTC) carried on its East West rail network the third highest tonnage on record at 3.25 billion gross tonne kilometres (bGTK) David Marchant Chief Executive of ARTC said today.

“The November figure is 10% higher than November 2005 and 46% higher than in November 1998.”

“For the last 4 months in a row, tonnages have been in excess of 3.2bGTK.” Mr Marchant said.

A record 3.3 billion gross tonne kilometres (bGTK) was carried during October which followed on from record volumes of 3.20bGTK and 3.27 bGTK in August 2006 and September 2006.

Rail freight volumes in 2006 between the eastern states and Perth in the months August, September and October were up 9% when compared to the same period in 2005.

These results have been achieved in an environment in which grain and bulk goods have fallen in volume.
