Yesterday afternoon and into the early hours of this morning there was an unacceptable delay to a project under way at Broken Hill for the purpose of improving track clearances to facilitate carriage of double stack containers from Parkes in NSW to Crystal Brook in South Australia.
This delay in completing the track work resulted in the Indian Pacific being held up for a number of hours.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation takes full responsibility for this unacceptable and indeed unforgivable delay.
A full internal inquiry will be held to ascertain the reason for the disruption.
The ARTC would like to apologise to all the passengers who were travelling on the Indian Pacific and also to Great Southern Rail for this incident.
The ARTC will immediately undertake to reimburse passenger fares for those who were affected by this delay.
