ARTC continues to make strong progress on restoration works across the Sydney-Perth corridor, enabling us to again bring forward the reopening of the Broken Hill line to the morning of Wednesday 18 March.
This will allow freight operators to resume movements on this critical east west route sooner than expected.
Following this early reopening, ARTC will proceed with a previously scheduled maintenance possession on the line from Sunday 22 March until Monday 24 March (48 hours).
While we recognise this is an additional closure shortly after reopening, these works are essential to maintaining the safe and reliable operation of the network.
The possession has been planned well in advance and includes maintenance activities and culvert replacement works that will strengthen the corridor and improve resilience of the track.
Additionally, it has been coordinated with local stakeholders, including councils which have aligned road works at level crossings to coincide with the rail closure.
ARTC understands the importance of the Sydney-Perth corridor to national freight and appreciates the patience and cooperation of operators and customers during this disruption.
Reopening the line earlier next week will allow freight movements to resume sooner, while the planned maintenance works will ensure the track is in a safe and reliable condition and help minimise the risk of further disruption in the months ahead.
ARTC continues to work closely with customers, terminals and industry partners to manage impacts across the supply chain and support the efficient movement of freight.
