Upcoming Rabbit Calicivirus Release Program
We will be carrying out a rabbit calicivirus release program on 19 February 2025, between Stirling (Mount Lofty) and Callington.
Release of the calicivirus will commence from 4:00pm Wednesday 19 February and run until 11:00pm that evening (weather permitting)
The calicivirus, which will be used in this program has been found to infect rabbits and hares but has not been found to infect or kill any native Australian mammals or other introduced species. Both the European brown hare and the European rabbit are invasive species to Australia and considered a threat to Australia’s environment and agricultural industries.
The treated calicivirus carrots will be left in place until they are taken or collected where appropriate.
We will place the treated carrots within the rail corridor where appropriate.
