friendly transport by rail.
Rail is an important part of the nation’s
economy and supports employment and
productivity. Record investment in the
Interstate network has supported local
jobs and economies and a high performing
rail network is the backbone of Australia’s
national economy.
Environmental and population factors
are bringing about a critical change in the
way Australians think about transport of
important everyday items, resources and
manufacturing goods.
The imperative for rail as the leading freight
option has never been more clear; ARTC is
poised to take a much greater role in ensuring
this is recognised in the community, among
decision makers and potential customers.
Acknowledgements
We wish to recognise our Shareholders, the
Australian Government, who have provided a
strongmandate onwhichwe have been able to
achieve the successes over the last 12 months.
We also thank our customers for their
support and business over the past year.
Together we want to thank the Board for
their much valued contribution to the
Company. In particular, Graham Walters for
his seven years of service as a non-executive
Director of ARTC, which concluded in
August 2011.
Mr Walters played an important role
during some of the most critical stages of
ARTC’s development including expansion
of the network and the implementation of
major infrastructure improvement works.
In particular, Mr Walters’ application and
diligence as Chair of the Audit and Compliance
Committee has been greatly valued by
Directors, Auditors and the Executive
Management team.
In November 2011, ARTC welcomed Lynelle
Briggs to the Board as a non-executive
Director. Ms Briggs brings a strong
background in the Australian public service,
having held various positions including
Deputy Secretary of the Department of
Transport and Regional Services in 2001,
Australian Public Service Commissioner, and
CEO of Medicare.
Finally, we congratulate ARTC’s staff
who are consistent in their dedication
and professionalism. Their skills and
expertise are this Company’s greatest
asset and we look forward to a very
successful year ahead.
