Australian Rail Track Corporation 2013 Annual Report - page 18

Our key customers on the North South
corridor include Pacific National, Aurizon
and Qube as well as NSW TrainLink and
V/Line passenger services.
This corridor primarily services theMelbourne
to Brisbane intermodal freight market,
but is also used extensively by passenger
services, regional grain and minerals traffic
as well as port-related movements.
During the year, Woolworths started
transporting groceries via rail between
Melbourne and Brisbane and Qube
commenced intermodal freight services
from Junee in the NSW Riverina to
Melbourne carrying a combination of
grain and paper product. In June 2013 a
twice-weekly service hauling new freight
fromMountain H20, Mars Petcare and
Norske Skog began from the Ettamogah
Rail Hub onboard Pacific National trains.
Coal volumes have also continued to
expand with increased exports bound for
both Port Kembla and Newcastle Ports in
this area.
Container and steel traffic constitute
40 per cent of the revenue on this corridor,
with bulk grain, minerals and passenger
services making up the remainder.
Having reached the last stage
of a huge corridor improvement
program, the network is now poised
to claim a much greater share of
the east coast transport market
and we are working closely with
customers to win this business.
