Australian Rail Track Corporation 2012 Annual Report - page 31

Under the Hunter Valley Access
Undertaking (HVAU), ARTC’s operation of
the coal chain is permitted to account for
a small amount of unplanned operational
losses as a result of operational percentage
of incidents.
Maintenance crews continued tomaintain
stable track quality and performance.
Extensive ballast cleaning, resurfacing and
rail grinding and the continuation of concrete
resleepering betweenMurulla and Dartbrook
have all contributed to this outcome.
In 2011-12 unplanned operational losses
as a result of ARTC activities represented
around 1 % of the planned tonnes or
around 1.3 million tonnes. This was within
agreed target levels.
In conjunction with other service
providers, ARTC has continued to
review methodologies and practices
for maintaining the track in an access
constrained environment. As part of the
restructure of the Hunter Valley division,
the opportunity has been taken to establish
a team of engineers to develop more
predictive systems, including the use of
train borne systems, to reduce the need for
track access. This follows on from the work
last year to establish the “200+ Project”.
