to address areas needing improvement
unearthed by the survey.
CEO workshops were held right across the
business again during 2012/13. These forums
have proven to be a valuable way to share the
strategic vision of the company with staff of
all levels.
DEVELOPING OUR PEOPLE
ARTC’s commitment to the learning and
development of its workforce was highlighted
during the year through:
The introduction of traineeships in Certificate III
in mechanical signalling;
Establishing a Certificate IV in electrical rail
signalling for qualified electrical trades staff to
get them ready for rail work. ARTC was able to
take advantage of Federal Government funding
on offer through the National Workforce
Development Fund, which ensures skilled
resources in a critical area;
Continuing the ARTC management development
program, equipping our future leaders; and
Continuing the ARTC network control training
schools and awarding a Certificate IV in Rail
Network Control.
At an industry level, ARTC has actively
championed the national contractor rail safety
worker competence assurance program.
ARTC and a number of rail operators are now
partnering with the Australasian Railway
Association, making it a truly national
program. Consistently applying competency
standards across all operator partners will
assist the industry, including ARTC, with
recruitment, compliance and assurance of rail
safety workers.
