ENVIRONMENT
Our committment to protecting the
environment is demonstrated through our
Environmental Policy and the Company’s
Environmental Management System which
documents our processes and procedures that
we have in place to support this Policy.
RAIL & THE ENVIRONMENT
With road accounting for close to 90 per cent of
the total carbon emitted by the freight transport
industry and rail accounting for just six per cent
– the environmental benefits of rail over road
are clear.*
There is clearly a role for rail in moving towards
a more energy efficient economy and ARTC will
be working to capitalise on the environmental
benefits of rail freight in order to increase
market share on the North South and East
West corridors.
Increasing the freight on our network also
means we have an increasing focus on the
impact of our operations across the broad reach
of our network and the communities that live
alongside it.
We take time to consider and manage the impact
that might be caused by the construction of new
tracks or passing loops on the environment or
the community and always work within relevant
State planning and environmental legislation.
We commit to systematically reviewing
our activities and projects to identify and
