Rail Worker Fatally Injured at Haig, WA

CEO of the Australian Rail Track Corporation, John Fullerton today expressed his sympathy for the family and colleagues of a Transfield worker who was fatally injured as a result of an incident with a Hi Rail Vehicle yesterday.

“Around 5pm yesterday a Transfield track maintenance worker was fatally injured in a Hi Rail incident on our East West network at Haig, which is around 450 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie on the Nullarbor Plain in WA.

“The accident occurred when a convoy of three Hi Rail vehicles were preparing to leave the track after carrying out maintenance in the area.

“WA Police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have begun investigations into the cause of the accident.

“ARTC’s focus has and will continue to be to work with Transfield to provide support to the worker’s team.” Mr Fullerton said

The track will remain closed until ARTC is given the all clear to re-open the line by the Police and the ATSB.
