About ARTC

ARTC helps keep Australia moving.

Every day we manage the movement of more than 430 freight and passenger trains across five states and 8,500km of track. We’re a vital part of the nation’s transport supply chain, connecting places and ports to people and products.

Our diverse workforce of more than 2,000 employees nationwide work together to provide a safe, sustainable and efficient rail network to drive the economy.

Moving goods and people by rail is safer than by road. It eases traffic congestion and lowers harmful carbon emissions, which makes cities and regions more liveable.

Owned by the Australian Government, we’re constantly evolving through new rail projects, such as Inland Rail – a fast freight route between Brisbane and Melbourne. We’re doing more than building, maintaining and operating railways; we‘re improving Australia’s productivity and developing new opportunities for businesses and regional communities.

Our rail network spans more than 50 First Nations groups who are at the heart of our Reconciliation Action Plan to develop new business, employment and social opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

As one of the largest rail network managers in the country, we’re proud to keep the future of freight on track.
