ARTC welcomes new Australasian Railway Association chairman: Lindsay Tanner

CEO of the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), John Fullerton, today welcomed the appointment of Lindsay Tanner as the new Chairman of the Australasian Railway Association (ARA).

“The appointment of Mr Tanner as the first independent ARA Chairman is a significant step forward for the Association and the rail industry,” Mr Fullerton said today.

“Australia’s rail industry – freight in particular, is undergoing a renaissance.

“The billions of dollars invested in modernising our interstate freight networks has now put rail in its strongest position in recent history.

“We have an industry that’s made up of competitive, commercially focused companies who are supporting the growth of Australian businesses, economic productivity and boosting regional employment.

“We look forward to working with the ARA and Mr Tanner to engage the business sector and the community to further promote the value of rail.

“The economic, environmental and community benefits of maximising rail transport are obvious, that’s why the appointment of someone of Mr Tanner’s experience and clout is exciting.

“The role that he will play in advocating these advantages will complement the work already underway by ARTC and freight members of the ARA to drive a substantial increase in freight on rail,” Mr Fullerton said.

Mr Fullerton will continue as a Board member of the ARA.
