Bushfire threat – Southern Highlands: update 11 Jan

Update: 11 January 2020

Please note that we have re-opened the Southern Highlands and Unanderra railway lines this morning (from 0915) following liaison with the NSW RFS and undertaking track inspections to certify the track safe to operate. Rail operators have been advised and are mobilising crews this morning.

We will continue to liaise with the RFS and monitor conditions closely.

ENDS

With current bushfire conditions around the Southern Highlands area forecast to peak again on Friday 10 January, ARTC will be suspending operations on its Southern Highlands line between Goulburn and Macarthur as well as the Unanderra Line between Moss Vale and Unanderra from 9am (0900 AEDT) 10 January.

While this closure is precautionary, safety is our primary concern. We remain in close contact and ready to act on the advice of the NSW RFS and other emergency authorities.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and at this stage plan to return operations following track inspections on Saturday 11 January subject to NSW RFS advice and weather conditions.

We thank our customers and the community for their continued patience with us during this period and ARTC would like to specifically recognise the tremendous work the NSW RFS and other agencies continue to deliver at this time.
