First hybrid utes hit the road

ARTC has taken another step towards our net zero by 2050 goal with the addition of three new mild-hybrid HiLux utility vehicles to our fleet – with plans for around 20 by the end of the year.

“Diesel is the biggest contributor to our carbon footprint, making up around 60% of ARTC’s total greenhouse gas emissions,” said Stuart Ross, ARTC Senior Manager Environment Systems. “Until now, there haven’t been many low-carbon alternatives for our fleet, and with 484 diesel-powered fleet vehicles, switching to lower-emissions options as soon as we can is an important step in reducing our emissions.”

The mild-hybrid HiLux combines a diesel engine with a small electric motor and battery, helping deliver fuel savings in the order of 5-10%. This is just a small step, but a step nonetheless which is exciting as it gets us moving in the right direction.

As well as these new hybrid vehicles, ARTC is also working on a broader fleet and plant transition strategy as we work to reduce our emissions and achieve our goal of net zero by 2050.
