Timelapse captures Branxton crossover upgrade

Watch how we upgraded the crossover at Branxton in just three days as part of the recent Hunter Valley rail network shutdown.

“The crossover was around 25 years old and used older component designs that were leading to additional maintenance requirements, so this new crossover will help minimise future maintenance and improve network reliability,” said ARTC’s James Haasnoot, Project Engineer.

“Over three days, we averaged 62 workers per shift to remove the old track and install the new one, with all work completed safely without any injuries.”

Working with contracting partner John Holland, the works included:

  • 210m of dual track reconditioning that required approximately 7,400 tonnes of new material
  • Culvert replacement
  • Installation and commissioning of a new 1 in 18.5 R800 Crossover on concrete bearers.
