As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the resilience and reliability of our network, we’ve just completed a host of critical works to bolster the East-West corridor.
The works were undertaken during the recent major closedown from 3-7 September 2025 between Kalgoorlie in WA and Two Wells in SA, and between Mile End in SA and Little River in Victoria.
Activities included the upgrade of four culverts between Bookaloo (near Port Augusta) and Tarcoola in SA, with new reinforced concrete box culverts to increase stormwater management capacity.
Delivered as part of our $1 billion Network Investment Program (jointly funded by the Australian Government and ARTC), the culvert upgrades mitigate the risk of flooding in key areas of the network.
During the closedown, a range of other essential maintenance and infrastructure works were also successfully completed across more than 30 sites, including level crossing upgrades, rail replacement, resleepering, structure repairs, and track reconditioning.
