Level crossing upgrade: Bethungra, NSW – 11 to 15 September 2026
Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is upgrading the level crossing at Olympic Highway in Bethungra to maintain a safe and reliable rail network.
This work is scheduled from 8:00pm, Friday 11 September to 11:45pm, Tuesday 15 September 2026, weather permitting. We will be working continuously during this time.
This is a significant project which will include rail cutting, excavating and installing a new road surface for the level crossing.
While we’re committed to reducing the impacts of our work wherever possible, these works will be noisy at times. Some ways we try to minimise disruption include:
- Watering down work areas
- Positioning light towers to shine away from residences
- Limiting the number of machines operating at any one time.
DETOUR FOR LIGHT VEHICLES
From 8:00pm, Friday 11 September to 7:00am, Monday 14 September 2026, light vehicles and emergency services will detour via Baylis St, Ironbong Rd, Junee Reefs Rd, and other local roads before rejoining the Olympic Highway at Crowther St, Illabo.
Traffic controllers and signage will safely guide road users. See detour map at the link below. The detour will also appear on livetraffic.com.
The Olympic Highway will be open to LOCAL VEHICLES ONLY between Illabo and Bethungra.
Please be aware that Inland Rail is also conducting works this weekend, closing Brabins Lane level crossing. Please follow all directions from signage and traffic controllers.
From 7:00am, Monday 14 September to 11:00pm, Thursday 17 September a shuttle flow will operate at the level crossing while we complete asphalting works.
