North Coast trackwork to improve the rail network

  • Maintenance works are occurring on the main lines between Telarah in New South Wales and Acacia Ridge in Queensland.
  • Two-day shutdown from 5:30am Saturday 28 October to 1:00am Monday 30 October.
  • Essential track maintenance will maintain high safety and reliability standards.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out essential rail maintenance and improvement works along the New South Wales North Coast network between Telarah and Acacia Ridge in Queensland.

To enable the works the line will be closed from 5:30am Saturday, 28 October to 1:00am Monday 30 October.

ARTC Group Executive for the Interstate Network, Simon Ormsby, said the shutdown is required to maintain a safe, reliable network.

“This shutdown allows us to complete a large number of jobs right along the North Coast Line, including track resurfacing, resleepering, turnout renewal and replacement and upgrading communications systems.

“Our team will be working right along the 800km train line, investing more than 7,400 work hours in critical maintenance.

“With no freight or passenger trains running on the weekend, our teams will be able to complete structural inspections and other work that is not possible when trains are running.”

Other work includes,

  • Major track maintenance
  • Temporary speed restriction removal
  • Vegetation control at multiple locations
  • Signal maintenance

ARTC is reminding motorists to remain vigilant and slow down at level crossings during the shutdown, with machinery and other movements still occurring on the rail line.

“We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience and thank the community for its support and patience while these essential works take place.”
