Notification of poison baiting program (Rabbits) Murraylands & Limestone Coast

April 6 - July 18

Upcoming rabbit baiting program

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) would like to advise rural neighbours that a poison baiting program for the control of rabbits is about to commence along the railway corridor in the Murraylands through to the Limestone Coast (please see attached maps for specific locations) and is planned to begin Saturday 6th April 2024. The baiting program is expected to continue until the 17th of June 2024.

Poisons, such as 1080, which will be used in this rabbit baiting program pose an extreme risk to your livestock and domestic dogs.  Please take steps (ie restraint or muzzling) to make sure your animals do not have access to the rail corridor, baits or affected animals.

The rabbit baits will be left in place until they are taken or decompose, they will not be collected.  All baits including rabbit carcasses can remain toxic for at least 12 months, even after rain.

ARTC will place baits at least 150m from dwellings (other than railway dwellings) or public buildings, and 20m from permanent or flowing water bodies, and roadways.  ARTC will be erecting warning signs of the poison baits at level crossings entry’s and around the rail corridor boundary where appropriate.
